MATERIALS:
Mechanical Pencil with (2H black lead)
Gummi eraser
Speedball ink(black)
Yellow & Crimson Gouache
#8 round sable hair brush
#10 round sable hair brush
PROCESS:
Now I roll the gum eraser gently over the pencil lines.
This give you a lighter image that won't show through some of the more translucent ink wash.
I achieve the nebula effect by dipping globs of white gouache into wet ink. The gouache spreads adn the nebula effect creates itself.
adding colour: This is essentially a grayscale ink drawing, but I will add a splash of colour with red only.

the dream! This is not actually happening, unfortunately, but I'd probably give my right arm to see it happen!

It's great seeing the step by step look at your work!
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. This is something I try to do on my blog at least once every month or so.
ReplyDeletethat's awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I have a passion for all these characters!
DeleteThis is so Amazing Nice mash-up of Sci-Fi scenes even if I wouldn't have gone with That Enterprise but hay its Rom that stands Tall Sweet!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteI understand what you mean about the Enterprise, but this mash-up was more about how much I want ROM to find a home at IDW. Since the current Star Trek ongoing from IDW is based in the new universe, I went with the redesigned Enterprise. But, this piece is really more about wanting to see an ongoing ROM series at IDW than anything else. That being said, I did get a perverse pleasure drawing the Enterprise shooting up a Martian saucer. :D
i'm not sure how ROM would work in a Star Trek/Mars Attacks cross over but anything that brings him back would be a dream come true. great job artistically speaking as well you don't mind if i post it here? http://romspaceknightart.blogspot.com/ i'll take it down if your not cool with it but i just love it when i find well done fan art fro Rom.
ReplyDeleteNo please do post it! I'm honoured!
Deleteand I agree that ROM isn't an easy fit with these properties. In fact none of these properties fit with each other. I just did this for fun and more importantly, because I dream of a day when IDW gets ROM and runs with it as they did with G.I.Joe, Transformers,Star Trek, etc. It's really not about the mash-up as much as its about ROM belonging with IDW.
cool, i hope you'll come by the blog some time i update it weekly, and not with a bunch of rhetorical bullshit. you'll especially like it if you want to see what other artists and fans of ROM are coming up with lately as well as new found ROM related "artifacts" from the 80s and 90s. plus you can see what's going on with Bill Mantlo these days and how to make his life just a bit better as i have recently with some art of my own. you'll see what i mean if you visit the blog.
