original sketch on 9x12 paper
Lines are then lightened by rolling gum eraser over it.
masking will be difficult on this one since there is so much overlap, so I start with the the part that has the most.
Since this is ink and not gouache(which can smear and fade even when dry), I can start at the bottom and not worry as much about my hand smearing the previosuly done work when I move upward.
on the right side there is only the knife and the vampire's hair overlapping so I paint in those details wait for it top dry and then I can mask
I can now mask the rest and leave the handle bar and bike tire overlap to be the last think I ink in.
I start with the background to fill in and then move on to bike detail.
Then onto the Blade character
close on the goggled countenance of terror!!!
after finishing all but the overlapping remainder of the handle bar and tire, I remove the mask on the top and...
...complete the gloved hand of Blade and the bike handle bar.
now I can remove the left poart of the masking and...
fill in the remaining detail of the front tire.
with all the masking complete I can now fill in the spokes.
and we're done!
